"The idea of human imperfection that is deeply ingrained in the social mind, in old scientific and religious thinking blinds us to the perfection that is already in us, as us, as Life itself, as Nature herself."
A native New Yorker, Jeremiah has been teaching yoga since 1998. His classes are focused and dynamically uplifting with attention to breath and body awareness. He enjoys adapting evolutions of vinyassa from a broad vocabulary of movement and while he takes yoga practice very seriously, he injects a spirit of playfulness into this often challenging discipline. Jeremiah believes laughter allows the body to open into greater flexibility of movement. He encourages students to unlock transformational potential and breathe their own inspired art of yoga.
Yoga, meditation and world philosophies were a part of Jeremiah's upbringing. Raised a vegetarian, his mother taught yoga and his father was an initiate of the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition. A meeting with the Dali Lama at 15 inspired a grounded interest in global awareness, social activism and the subtle arts of Yoga Tantra.
In 1987, he began regular Hatha Yoga practice at Integral Yoga School of NYC, and serious study of Yang style Tai Chi, Chi Gong and Taoist Meditation under Master C.K. Chu. He received Kalachraka Initiation with the Dali Lama in 1991, and Dream Yoga initiation with Namkai Norbu. He then found new inspiration and cohesiveness of living practices at the Jivamukti Yoga Center, under founders Shanon Gannon and David Life. The depth and grace of their breath centered teachings became an essential ingredient to his humble pursuits in Classical / Modern Dance, and the Martial Arts.
Jeremiah received Yoga Teacher's Certification at The Sivananda Ashram of Neyer Dam, India in 1998. In a consultation with T.K.V. Desikachar at the Krishnamacharia Yoga Mandirum in Madras, he was encouraged to pursue studies of adaptation and Yoga Therepy with distinguished Desikachar students; Mark Whitwell and Leslie Kaminoff. He saw the Dali Lama for teachings in Dharmsala, bathed in the Gangies during the Kumb Mela, and then headed to Nepal to enjoy an Ashtanga Yoga intensive with Danny Paradise.
In 1999 he began study with Mark Whitwell, is certificated by Heart of Yoga Association and now assists Mark at teacher training seminars in N.Y. and Germany. He attended Yoga Anatomy classes with Leslie Kaminoff at The Breathing Project where he teaches periodically. After many years of practice at Jivamukti Yoga Center, Jeremiah earned certification from Sharon Gannon and David Life and now teaches at their center Monday through Friday.
